Program Nights

Held 7 times a year, each Program Night offers a topic of interest and relevance to the publishing community. Attendees have the opportunity to listen to and learn from leading figures in their fields on such diverse topics as Censorship, Faith-Based Publishing, Groundbreaking Women in Publishing, Audiobooks, and our annual Designer’s Roundtable and President’s Nights. A cocktail hour precedes each program, offering folks an opportunity to mingle and network with their publishing colleagues.

Annual Plant / Mill Trips

Every year the Guild runs two trips for approximately 25 industry newcomers to tour various printing plants and paper manufacturers. The Spring trip, held in May, includes visits to Maple Press and Pixelle Specialty Solutions (formerly Glatfelter Paper). The Fall trip, held in October, includes visits to Ecological Fibers and Superior Packaging and Finishing. Each trip is overnight and there is no cost to participants but spots are limited and fill up fast.

Companies or individuals applying to attend must be Guild members in good standing or sponsored by an individual Guild member. Nonmembers will be accepted, but will automatically be wait-listed and a spot on the trip is not guaranteed. Attendance is strictly first-come, first-served basis. Because of the restricted space, we limit the number of attendees to 2 per company.

Information about the trips is emailed out to the membership approximately 2 months beforehand. 2019 marks the 25th Annual Spring and the 17th Annual Fall plant trips. Please contact us for more information and be on the lookout for our next trip!

Basically Book Seminar

Basically Books is a one-day seminar geared toward new industry professionals. It covers the gamut from manuscript to bound book and beyond (essentially a primer on the basics of the life of a book). This program is free and we supply the bagels for breakfast!

Basically Books is available to Individual and Corporate BIGNY members. There is limit of 2 participants per company; additional registrants and non-members will be wait-listed and notified if space becomes available.
